Frequently Asked Questions
There are just a lot of question in life. Some get asked more frequently than others.
Some don't get asked that often but they're good questions never-the-less. We have
several of the former and a few of the latter right here in our F.A.Q. Section.
Q: What's a die board?
It's a secret. Think black, silent helicopters... Honestly, if you don't already
know, you probably don't want or need to, but if your curiosity simply cannot be
held in check, well, die boards are actually wood tooling used in the manufacture
of corrugated paper ("cardboard") boxes.
A rotary die board is a semi-cylinder of hard plywood to which cunningly curved
knives are attached. Two of these boards are bolted onto a steel cylinder
which forms the upper portion of the rotary die-cutter. The lower portion is another
cylinder covered with hard urethane. The two cylinders are brought together
and spun rapidly in opposite directions. Cardboard sheets are fed between
the two cylinders and the knives mounted on the plywood die board cut out pizza
boxes or grocery store display cartons or whatever you're making faster than your
eye can see it happening. You touch something cut out with a die board virtually
every day of your life.
To be clear, Ply forms only makes the curved plywood die board, which we then sell
to a die maker who adds the knives and they then sell the finished die board to
a box plant that finally uses it to actually make boxes. And it all started
with a tree in the woods.
Q: How many crates loading in a container?
For Flat Die Board Plywood
62sheets/ pallets for 1220mmX2440mmX15mm; 52 sheets/ pallets for 1220mmX2440mmX18mm
8pallets for 20GP; 16pallets for 40GP; 18 pallets for 40HC
That depends on which size or combination of sizes you order. A good place to start
is the following:
When ordering a combination of panel sizes, divide the number of crates by the total
allowable amount and that's the percentage of the container by that particular panel
size. Continue with that formula until your container/truck is filled. As always,
please contact us and we’ll happily help with your specific container or truckload
quantities.
